the problem lies in linux is about making GOOD software, not making good money..when you install say Debian and realize with a mouse click you can install any one of 30,000 apps, you realize INFORMATION should be free.a lot of software companies Probably don't want you to discover that, nor do they want to compete with it.

this is simply not true.. I wish people would ask questions before saying ignorant retarded statementsfirst off, this is on a 600$ computer, (1.8ghz, and $50 geforce 50$ of ram) and second, It uses 300MB of ram total(linux compiz EVERYTHINg combined).thats same ram as mac and much less than windows.and 3rdly NO videos here are unix. unless someone posts videos of a prompt.. GNOME, KDE, xfce, are not linux but most [smart] people will infer what it means when you say "check out my linux"

You can say what you want but THIS IS NOT UNIX it is a 3rd party plug-in and not part of the OS.The reason why mac does not do this is because the amount of RAM and CPU time it takes to do this is brutal. It's OK if you have a $10,000 box but if you have a standard PC (by todays standards) then your system will crawl while doing anything else. This BS is useless and hard to get up and running. That's why no one programs for UNIX it's a nightmare to get it and running smoothly...

Nice setup. I'm inspired to build my own.

no, it's open sauce.compiz is modular, everything you see there is not compiz.. it is plug ins made by different people. so you can have anything you want, from simple to uselessly crazy...and mac will never be that.not putting down mac's they have there good points. just clarifying what i mean by robust.
UbuntuLee (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
lol. I don't see that happening. Most of the compiz effects are glitchy and unuseful. OS X tries to get a good balance between looks and usability. |
